Braun Series 9 – Study results

Study results to substantiate the claims: "World’s most efficient
shave (shaver)
¹. Exceptionally gentle."

¹Tested on 3-days beards versus leading premium products.

11 studies in total were carried out to substantiate the claims of "World’s most efficient shaver.¹ Exceptionally gentle." as well as "World’s most efficient shave.¹ Exceptionally gentle." with the asterisk “ ¹tested on 3-days beards versus leading premium products”.

In studies 1 to 5, the shaving efficiency of the Braun Series 9 compared to 5 different competitor shavers on 3-days beards was objectively determined using an optical measurement procedure.
In studies 6 to 11, the ipi Instituts for Product-Market-Research in Stuttgart tested the Braun Series 9 electric shaver in comparison with 6 different competitor shavers from the premium segment, and they were subjectively assessed by consumers. "Shaving Efficiency" relates to how much hair the shaver removes per stroke/time unit. A consumer is also able to see this at the start of shaving. The competitor models tested are the premium shavers of Philips, Panasonic and Remington. These include two rotating shaving systems (two different Philips Series 9000 models and the Remington HyperFlex) and two linear shaving systems (two different Panasonic Lamdash 5 models and the Remington SmartEdge Pro). The following is a detailed description of the individual studies, which, in addition to the objective shaving efficiency, also contain the shaving times as well as the subjective assessments of the quickness of shaving, general satisfaction with shave and gentleness on the skin.

Study 1: Objective measurement of the shaving efficiency of the Braun Series 9 and the Philips Series 9000 Prestige (Test-No.: 316_CS_318E)

Objective of the test:
Objective comparison of how efficiently the test shavers remove a 3-days beard.

Test description:
Location:
CPRC (Consumer & Product Research Center) in Kronberg
Test execution: qplusq OHG, Wiesbaden
Time frame: 09/18/2018 to 09/27/2018

Test subjects:
30 men aged between 25 and 51 years who do not have a beard, dry shave at least 5 times a week and use a shaver at home that is not more than 5 years old and when new cost at least €150. The test subjects are divided into 50% users of a rotating and 50% users of a linear shaving system. The test was carried out on a 3-days beard.

Measurement method:
With the aid of a magnifying glass, shots of the facial skin are taken before the shave and after a predefined shaving time. The number and length of whiskers visible from above are automatically determined by the measuring system.

Measurand:
The reduction of the 3-days beard by the shave was measured. The sum of all measured lengths of whiskers is the measurement. The more efficient a shaver is, the shorter and less the hair it leaves behind after the same shaving time; the measured value will decrease more markedly. This corresponds to the customer's visual impression. For the test group, the results for both test shavers are compared statistically.

Test design:
A test supervisor from the company qplusq supervised the test shaves and carried out the measurements in the test centre. The shaving was carried out in split-face mode, i.e. on one side of the face the men shaved with the Braun Series 9 and on the other half with the Philips Series 9000 Prestige. On the day following the test, the respective shavers were used on the opposite side of the face. Shaving was interrupted every 15 and 30 seconds to measure the decrease of hair.

Results:
The Braun Series 9 removes the hair of a 3-days beard significantly more efficiently (confidence level 95%) than the Philips Series 9000 Prestige.

Study 2: Objective measurement of shaving efficiency of the Braun Series 9 and the Panasonic Lamdash 5 blade ES-CLV9CX (Test-No.: 300_CS_417E)

Objective of the test:
Objective comparison of how efficiently the test shavers remove a 3-days beard.

Measurand:
The reduction of the 3-days beard by the shave was measured. The sum of all measured lengths of whiskers is the measurement. The more efficient a razor is, the shorter and less the hair it leaves behind after the same shaving time; the measured value will decrease more markedly. This corresponds to the customer's visual impression. For the test group, the results for both test shavers are compared statistically.

Test design:
A test supervisor from the company qplusq supervised the test shaves and carried out the measurements in the test centre. The shaving was carried out in split-face mode, i.e. on one side of the face the men shaved with Series 9 and on the other half with the Panasonic Lamdash 5 ES-CLV9A. On the day following the test, the respective shavers were used on the opposite side of the face. Shaving was interrupted every 15 and 30 seconds to measure the decrease of hair.

Results:
The Braun Series 9 removes the hair of a 3-days beard significantly more efficiently (confidence level 95%) than the Panasonic Lamdash 5 blade ES-CLV9CX.
